I'm starting to suspect that this seedling may just be averse to being grafted. The callus has become gnarly, the graft has stalled and is pale, and the roots keep sending up strong shoots from below ground that I've been removing. I've added a thick layer of rich potting mix below the existing root ball, and brought it into the greenhouse to encourage more growth.
