Planted out in spring 2022. Seems to have very frost-tender stems but has nevertheless grown back from the roots every year.
This tree does not have any grafts on it.

(October 30, 2025) Not dead -- Prematurely marked this one dead.
(January 5, 2025) Grafted -- Just grafted with Poncho.
(December 13, 2024) Update -- Bit of freeze damage from barely below 31°F recently, this probably really should be grafted over in spring.
(August 29, 2024) Update -- Regrew with decent vigor from below the soil line.
(January 17, 2024) Freeze update -- The graft looks mostly ok, but both this rootstock and the second one look pretty dead.

(January 15, 2024) Frost protection -- Covered with a loosely fitting and leaky/torn cloth frost cover for the current freeze, but it does have a 32w LED grow light inside for warmth and light. Sensor shows only a couple degrees warmer than outside, though.
(October 26, 2023) Report -- The Northrop graft re-grew nicely this summer, and there's also a small rootstock branch.
