Planted out spring/summer 2021, extremely vigorous in first season, but badly damaged by December 2021 freeze. Re-grew to almost the same size in the 2022 growing season, but badly damaged again by the winter. Regrew more slowly in 2023.
This tree does not have any grafts on it.
All updates:
(March 2, 2025) Dug up -- I had marked this dead previously, but in digging up the root ball I see it's still alive. I'll pot it up I guess.
(June 20, 2024) Grafted -- Just added two scions of Linh, one to the green stump of last year's growth and one to the vigorous new shoot.
(April 20, 2024) Update -- It's starting to bud out just above the old stump on last year's growth.
(March 3, 2024) Update -- Killed above ground by the January freeze. Will probably excavate the trunk to graft very low, assuming the roots are still alive.
(October 25, 2023) Report -- Grafted with Northrup in summer 2023 after a disappointing kill temperature for the stems the last two winters.
