(March 7, 2025) End of winter -- The scope of the damage seems pretty clear now, lots of leaf loss and some stems too, but all very minor.

(February 19, 2025) Update -- Mostly still OK despite some more superficial damage from a low of 22.4°F last week. The two main leaders look to be frost-pruned a bit, but most of the other branch tips are fine.

(February 10, 2025) Inter-freeze update -- Shows some minor damage from a few weeks of mild to moderate freezes, with a low of 25.7°F/-3.5°C. Colder weather is coming soon.

(June 27, 2024) Update -- Main trunk is mostly abandoned, other than one small branch forming just above ground level. Many new shoots from the roots.

(March 4, 2024) Update -- Still clinging to its last leaf, and the main stems do look mostly alive, albeit with patchy dead zones.

(February 2, 2024) Update -- Looking increasingly like most or all of the tree will die back. There are still a few green bits, but many sections of the trunk are starting to go brown.

(January 17, 2024) Freeze update -- Not looking so great despite the protection of a polycarbonate cube and a string of lights. But still a lot better than most of the rest of the trees!

(January 8, 2024) Readying frost protection -- In light of the potential for extreme cold in about a week, I made a polycarbonate box for this tree using the spare panels from the greenhouse construction. I was going to leave the tree unprotected, but the forecast shows a potential for low teens or even single digit (°F) temperatures, so I'm not taking any chances.

(December 10, 2023) Update -- Still looking good, you can see a few slightly frost damaged leaves at the end of a few branches, but generally no damage to any hardened leaves yet.
