This seedling regrew in 2022 to about the same size it was before being frozen to the ground in December 2021. Showed moderate to serious leaf damage, but no clear stem damage, in Nov 2022 freeze. Mostly dead above ground after 17°F with just an unheated upside-down terracotta pot protecting it, but regrew nicely in 2023.
This tree does not have any grafts on it.

(February 8, 2025) Inter-freeze update -- After a few weeks of intermittent mild to moderate freezes (lowest temperature of 25.7°F/-3.5°C), this tree shows some damage but seems mostly happy.
(January 17, 2025) Pre-freeze update -- Looks happy and dormant.
(September 23, 2024) Update -- Seems to be ending growth for the year, once again seemingly healthy enough but small compared to the other winter survivors of a similar age.
(July 23, 2024) Update -- Second flush getting started.
(May 15, 2024) Update -- Strong new flush after recent warm, sunny weather.
(April 20, 2024) Update -- Buds starting to expand more quickly lately
(April 13, 2024) Budding out -- A few buds swelling.
(March 4, 2024) Update -- Does look like at least one living bud above ground.
(January 17, 2024) Freeze update -- Looks dead above ground, or close enough. Better luck next year, fella!
(January 15, 2024) Frost protection -- Covered with an unheated bucket for the current freeze.
(December 3, 2023) Frost update -- Some minor leaf damage from two nights around 28°F.
